That's what makes it frustrating. The causes fall in a predictable order, and here's how we work through them.

What "runs but no heat" actually tells us
A dryer does two things: turn the drum and make heat. Those are mostly separate systems. So if the drum still turns, your motor and belt are fine. The trouble is in the heat side, meaning the heating element or gas burner, the parts that tell it when to fire, or the airflow carrying heat through the clothes. That narrows it down fast, and it usually means one part instead of a whole machine. Before we chase parts, we look at air. Blocked venting causes more no-heat calls in old Connecticut housing than any single component.
Cause family one: blocked or crushed venting
This is the cheapest thing to rule out and the most common in older homes. Long vent runs through tight basements, crushed foil duct behind the machine, lint packed at the wall cap, a bird nest at the outside vent. When hot air can't leave, the dryer overheats inside and its safety devices shut the heat down. The drum keeps spinning. Clues include cycles that got slowly longer, a hot laundry room, a damp lint screen, or clothes that feel warm but never dry. Crushed duct behind a machine shoved flat against a wall is something we see constantly in walk-ups and rowhouses.
Cause family two: thermal fuses, thermostats, and elements
After airflow, we look at the parts that control or make heat. A thermal fuse is a one-time safety device. It blows when the dryer overheats, usually because of that vent problem, and after that the dryer will tumble forever with no heat at all. Cycling thermostats and limit switches can fail open too. On electric dryers, the heating element itself can break internally. On gas dryers, an igniter or gas valve coil can quit. All of these sit behind panels near live voltage or a gas connection. That's our side of the line, not yours.
Cause family three: power and controls
Electric dryers run on two legs of 240 volts. Lose one leg, say a half-tripped double breaker or a worn cord or outlet, and the motor still turns on 120 volts while the heat gets nothing. That symptom fools a lot of people. On the control side, a bad timer, moisture sensor, or main board can just stop calling for heat. And check the obvious: a cycle set to Air Fluff or Delicate won't make much heat by design. We've driven out for that one. Look at your dial first.
What you can safely check, and what we do
Safe for you: confirm the cycle setting, clean the lint screen, pull the machine out a little and look for a kinked or crushed vent hose, go outside and check that the vent flap opens while the dryer runs, then reset both halves of the breaker. Stop there. Don't open panels, don't touch the gas line, don't test wiring. On our end we meter each leg of incoming power, test fuses and thermostats for continuity, check element resistance, measure static pressure and airflow at the vent, and watch the burner light on gas units. Then we fix the cause, not just the blown fuse. Call us.

Can a clogged vent really stop the heat completely?
Yes. Trapped heat trips a thermal fuse or limit switch, and those cut power to the heat while the drum keeps turning. Clearing the vent is part of the repair. Skip it and the new part blows again.
My breaker isn't tripped, so power is fine, right?
Not always. A double breaker can fail on one leg without visibly tripping. The dryer gets enough voltage to tumble but not enough to heat. We meter both legs to confirm.
