Refrigerator Repair β€” Book a Visit Today

A fridge rarely dies all at once. It hums louder. The milk turns before the date. Ice forms in a sheet on the back wall. Most of what we pull apart comes down to a handful of parts: a failed defrost heater, a tired evaporator fan, a compressor relay that clicks and quits, a condenser coil packed with dust and pet hair, or a control board that lost the thread. A visit starts with questions, then temperatures at both compartments, then the sealed system and airflow path. We tell you what failed and what it takes to fix it before any tool comes out. Old kitchens, tight galley layouts, basement second fridges β€” we work in all of them. Call us and describe what you're hearing.

Refrigerator Repair β€” residential refrigerator being serviced

The refrigerator symptoms we hear most

  • Freezer's fine but the fridge side is warm Blocked damper, iced evaporator, or a dead circulation fan
  • There's water pooling under the crisper drawers Clogged defrost drain tube or a split water line fitting
  • It runs constantly and never shuts off Dirty condenser coils, bad door gasket seal, or failing thermostat
  • Ice maker fills but the cubes come out hollow Low water pressure, partially frozen inlet valve, or fill tube icing
  • Loud buzzing then silence, over and over Compressor start relay or overload protector cycling out

Safe things to check first

Worth a look before you call β€” sometimes it saves you the visit.

  • 1Pull the fridge out and look at the coils underneath or behind β€” a thick gray mat of dust chokes cooling.
  • 2Close the door on a dollar bill and tug; if it slides free easily, the gasket isn't sealing.
  • 3Check that vents inside both compartments aren't buried under grocery bags or takeout containers.
  • 4Confirm the outlet works by plugging in a lamp, and make sure the plug isn't sharing a tripped GFCI.

Refrigerator Repair β€” quick answers

How cold should my refrigerator actually be?

Aim for 37 to 40 degrees in the fresh food side and around 0 in the freezer. Use a standalone thermometer in a glass of water overnight β€” built-in displays drift and often read what the board thinks, not what the air is.

My fridge is fifteen years old. Worth fixing?

Depends on what broke. A fan motor, thermostat, or defrost heater on a solid cabinet is usually sensible. A failed sealed system on an aging unit is a different conversation. We'll tell you honestly which one you're looking at.

Why is there ice building up on the back wall of the freezer?

That's the defrost cycle failing. The heater, thermostat, or timer stopped clearing frost from the evaporator, so it grows into a block and strangles airflow to the fridge side. Common repair, and the parts are usually available.

Can you work on built-in and counter-depth units?

Yes. Built-ins need care coming out of their cabinets and often have condensers up top instead of below. We plan the pull before we start so nothing gouges your flooring or cabinet trim.

Do I need to empty the fridge before you get here?

Not entirely. Move perishables to a cooler if it's already warm inside. Clear the top and the area in front so we have room to slide the unit out and set up. That's plenty.

What do I do while I wait for the appointment?

Keep the doors shut as much as you can. If the freezer still works, move what you can in there. Unplug it if you smell burning or hear repeated hard clicking, then call us.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call us or fill out the form. Describe what you hear, smell or see. Brand and rough age help. We ask a few questions so the tech arrives with likely parts on the truck.

  2. Step 2

    We come look

Pick a window that works. Our tech tests the machine, checks power, water and drainage, then explains what failed in plain words. No jargon, no guessing out loud at your kitchen table.

  3. Step 3

    Repair or straight answer

Most jobs finish the same visit. If a part must be ordered, we tell you what and why. If the unit isn't worth fixing, we say that too, and you decide.
